How to Use Desiccant Cartridge to Reduce Iso Moisture Contamination

When the air has a high moisture content, the moisture may react with the iso, creating crystals in the drum, which will clog the filter screens, resulting in more frequent cleaning and possible off-ratio foam. A desiccant cartridge will reduce the moisture content of the air flowing into the drum.

Isocyanate (iso) loves moisture and will absorb it directly from the environment unless preventative measures are taken. Condensation, humidity, etc., can be your enemy in maintaining healthy formulation and product. When injecting, iso is pumped out of the drum and air replaces the liquid volume in the drum. How to Install a Desiccant Cartridge

  1. Thread the 2″ bushing on the adapter into large bung or remove the 2″ bushing and thread the 3/4″ pipe into the small bung. On a plastic drum remove the knockout from the center of the 2nd bung for installation. Note: For vertical installation remove elbow and one 3/4” bushing pipe.
  2. Remove plastic tabs from bottom and top of cartridge part #40451
  3. Insert cartridge into rubber hose and tighten hose clamp.

Note: Cartridge should be replaced after the Indicator Window turns from blue to pink. If the drum is exposed to weather, the unit should be installed so that the cartridge points down to prevent liquid water from entering the exposed end.
