Happy Birthday to us!
Has it really been 60 years already? Seems like only yesterday one of our founders was working on the Manhattan project, then on the team that discovered polyurethanes, then joined with the Barnhardt family to open NCFI Polyurethanes.
Along the way, we’ve been the first at many things. *See our timeline page [link]. We started out with SPF roofing foam, then formulated residential and commercial insulation to insulate American buildings more efficiently. We grew that from a regional base to a global market and we now stand toe-to-toe with some of the largest global companies.
Sixty years means we have the experience it takes and the support you need to get any job done. We know polyurethane foam better than anyone. Bar none.
We added SPF for agricultural uses, then consumer products like marine foam and transportation seating, and custom foams like taxidermy and i-skins. We were the first to introduce geotechnical polyurethanes and that division continues to identify unique needs and respond with innovative products.
We were awarded the EPA’s highest honor: the Stratospheric Ozone Protection Award (now the Montreal Protocol Award) for our efforts at sustainable manufacturing. Our groundbreaking SmartSPF HFO sustainable product line got us invited to the White House and are talked about around the world.
When NASA unveiled the U.S. Space Shuttle program in the late 1970s-early 1980s they chose NCFI to ride along to insulate and protect the liquid fuel tanks and we did for every mission until the last flight. We still do as they renovate and preserve the old shuttles (*see our work on Pathfinder at the U.S. Space and Rocket Center [link]). We still go to the edge of human exploration as part of new NASA-United Launch Alliance rocket programs.
Our people are our greatest assets, and for 60 years many have made a life and career of working with NCFI from Mount Airy to Hickory, North Carolina to Dalton, Georgia, to our latest facility in Houston, Texas. From our manufacturing associates to our fleet drivers to our account managers, we’re a family with a single goal: To safely produce, deliver, and support building America.
Sixty years means we have the experience it takes and the support you need to get any job done. We know polyurethane foam better than anyone. Bar none. It also means we’re good enough to be the true leader in the innovation of any industry or sector we serve. You can count on us—so count to 60 with us.
Let’s keep building America together.
