Chicagoland Apartments Void Fill and Foundation Lifting

Problem

• 18,000 sqft apartment building suffering from voids beneath the slabs, ranging from 5” to nearly 2’ caused by stratified compacting of historically hydric wetlands’ sedimentary soil and multiple water and sewer main breaks over the years
• Voids caused uneven floors throughout the complex and created risk of mold issues
• Project needed to be completed with minimal disruption to the tenants

Solution

• Locate the voids using DCP tests and develop an injection plan to remediate the issue
• Stabilize, lift, level and void fill the flooring using the Terrathane 24-003 polymer
• Work within daytime hours and isolate the installation locations to minimize interruption to tenants

Results

• Project completed with minimal disruption to the tenants
• The 24-003 polymer worked exceptionally well in the saturated soil layers due to its hydro-insensitivity
• Satisfied customers due to fast repair, cleanliness of job site and professionalism of crews
