Problem

The historic American Royal building in Kansas City was experience soil settlement due to the confluence of the Missouri and Kansas rivers causing soil erosion
The building was built on land which was an ancient channel for retreating glacial melt, containing material which supporting geology could shift and adjust.
The floor of Governor’s Exposition Hall began shifting back in 1980s and the only remedy was to fill the voids beneath it with asphalt, and eventually to apply asphalt over the slab for a level surface.

Solution

The American Royal chose to use the TerraThane™ 24-003 Polymer to voidfill and lift the slab to level
In place of mudjacking, the TerraThane™ was lighter, so not to overburden the soil, and took less time, less of a mess, and a smaller footprint to complete the project.

Results

Filled all voids, some as large as 36”
Saved the client millions of dollars versus alternative methods
Brought the floors back to level
Minimized future settlement due to stabilized base soils
Minimized impact to the customer and their business
